About the Event

Please join Whitestone Chapter 495 for Introduction to Byzantium on Sunday, January 29 following Divine Liturgy at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 11-05 150th St., Whitestone, NY 11357. In this presentation we will take a very brief journey through the millennia-plus long Byzantine History beginning from the split of the Empire by Emperor Diocletian, between East and West halves in 286 AD, until the last kingdom, the Pontian Empire of Trebizond falls in 1461 AD. We will learn of some of the global contributions of Byzantium to civilization in Europe, the Middle East, and the rest of the world. Saints’ lives, Emperors, and other historical figures, and events will also be touched upon briefly so we can see how they all intertwine to form a cohesive picture of Medieval, Christian Greek life. Please click here for the flyer with more information. See you there!
