AHEPA solemnly marks today the 47th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. It is a day Hellenism will never forget! Still as of this day, Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot regimes, in violation of international law and numerous United Nations Resolutions, are continuing their efforts to eradicate Hellenic cultural and religious heritage in the occupied areas. Sadly, more than 43,000 Turkish troops still remain there.
AHEPA is at the forefront of defending Hellenism, and it supports key United States Senators lead by Bob Menendez, Chris Van Halen and Marco Rubio who sent a letter to President Biden condemning Turkey’s illegal activities in Verosa, which raises the possibility of sanctions in response to Erdogan’s continued intransigence of Cyprus. Additionally, we applaud members of the Hellenic caucus on this issue, led by Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney and Nicole Malliotakis. AHEPA is grateful for their advocacy.
It is our hope that both the Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders will resume their dialogue and work hard in order to resolve the insurmountable challenges and achieve a just and viable settlement. Time is of the essence.
Fraternally,
Dean Moskos
AHEPA District 6 Governor
